Chapter Eighteen

R

eg wasn’t sure where she should take Corvin. She didn’t want to take him back to the cottage. It could all be a ruse to make her think he was unable to take advantage of her, and that would quickly change once he was in her door. He was that kind of person. He’d faked illness or fatigue before and almost drawn her in. She shouldn’t be fooled by a little bit of wobbling and slurred words. She’d never been to his house and didn’t know if it would be any better to take him there. She would still be alone with him, and he would not have to deal with any warding spells at his own house. He could have all kinds of spells that could bind her. He could have his own little dungeon.

She looked around for inspiration. There was a flutter in her peripheral vision, and she turned to catch it, but could not. Again, she was too slow to catch whoever it was following her. Now whoever it was knew that she and Corvin were together.

Was it Damon? He had been jealous of Corvin. He seemed to know things that he shouldn’t have known. He could have been the one who had followed her to the vet’s office, and that was how he knew Starlight was sick. Not because anyone at the Crystal Bowl had told him so.

Reg dug her phone out of her pocket and tapped through the recent calls until she came to the number she was looking for. She hadn’t input him into her contacts, but she had taken a call from him. There was no answer. Reg waited for the call to go to voicemail, trying to figure out what she was going to say. It wasn’t exactly her responsibility to take care of Corvin when he was on a bender. But she wasn’t sure who else would want to be involved.

“Uh, hello?”

Reg collected her thoughts. “Yeah. It’s Reg Rawlins. This is Davyn, right?”

“What can I do for you, Miss Rawlins?”

He sounded a little too formal, which made her wonder about asking for the favor she had been planning on. She hesitated. “Well… I sort of have a problem. I was hoping you could help, since Corvin is in your coven…”

“Corvin is being shunned.”

“Yes, but… He’s still a member of your coven, right, and don’t you have… any responsibility to help him when he needs it?”

“No, I don’t. In fact, I am prohibited from helping. What seems to be the problem?”

“He’s… kind of in bad shape. I need somewhere to take him, but I can’t take him back to my place. I don’t want to be alone with him. So I thought… you could help. I could bring him to your place, and he could sleep it off there and make sure everything is okay. Couldn’t you?”

“No, I can’t. I can’t have anything to do with him. What kind of example would I be setting to the rest of the coven
